Midway School Project Approved
Final approval to a $17,955 project to replace the Midway school building which was burned recently, was given this week by Ron Stephens, WPA administrator.
Brick from the old building will be salvaged for use in backing up the native stone exterior of the new structure. Two classrooms, a gymnasium, and an assembly room will be included in the new building.
Plans call for two stages, one in the assembly room and a larger one in the gymnasium. This arrangement will make possible conversion of the gymnasium into an auditorium by installation of moveable chairs for large community events.
WPA has authorized expenditure of $10,774, of which $3,799 is for labor, toward completion of the project. The Midway school board, sponsors, will contribute $7,181, with $1,708 being used for skilled labor payrolls and the remainder going for equipment, material, supplies, and other non-labor items.
An estimated six months will be required to complete the project with 30 men finding employment for varying periods during the life of the project.
