I’m finding it difficult these days to adequately express my feelings. My life is such a mixture of joy and sadness, blessings and problems, hope and heartache. I’m sure you sometimes find yourself in the same situation.
Yesterday I sat in stunned silence as I witnessed the assault on our nation’s most cherished beliefs. There are no words that can adequately explain how or why that happened. I’ll listen in the coming days to the commentators, analysts and experts, and I’m sure I still won’t understand.
Violence is never the answer to our problems. Hatred doesn’t change hearts and minds. I believe each of us, not just our leaders, must search for words that inspire hope and cooperation, not ones that incite rebellion and violence. We’re already battling for our lives against an enemy we can’t see. Let’s not complicate our struggles by battling against each other.
This political nightmare we have been in has really opened up my eyes to the hate and fear in my peers. We have discussed the nightmare of the last four years and have been saddened to realize how dissimilar we are to our peers.
I still believe most people are good. Barely. Though we've never felt so jolted....
