I have always loved to read.
I have always loved to learn about other people and places.
I have always asked “why” and usually all those other questions beginning with “w”.
I have always loved history and wondered what life was like when my grandparents were children.
This week it occurred to me that since I’ve retired my reading and research has expanded to a much wider variety of topics. Earlier this week I was reading a doctoral dissertation on early coal mining. Then all about suffragists, dust bowl migration, balloons used in WWI, when to prune desert willow trees…Today I read about avian conjunctivitis.
Of course, the fact that I know anything about any of those is due to Google and some other often-used online resources. Most days I’m thankful that Google exists. However, there are other days when I wonder if I wouldn’t accomplish a whole lot more if I didn’t get involved in reading about things like the hanging of Ed Gonzales. I suppose only time will be the judge of that.
BTW, my reason for googling avian conjunctivitis was this little blind house finch that visited today. If you feed birds you might want to Google it yourself.
