Marriage Licenses
The following couples have been licensed to wed the past week: Eleck Fields and Bulah Cogbill of Caddo; H. S. Kent and Zona Townsend of Garvin; M. A. Kady and Myrtle Whitbenburg of Durant; W. L. Langham and Lillie Stone of Roberta; L. B. Moore and Lilly Whitley of Platter.
Socialist Encampment
Local socialists have arranged a four days encampment to be held in the city park here August 6, 7, 8 and 9 at which time it is thought that members of that party from several counties will gather. They will have several speakers, among them Stanley Clark, T. N. Roberts, Monroe Wright, W. A. Cole, J. T. Crumble, Lee Rhoades, and E. S. Hurt. They promise to give any speaker form other political parties a fair division if time is desired.
New Post Office
A new post office has been established in this county about five miles west of Mead. The name of the new office is Ladelle and the mail is received and distributed from the store of the Washita Trading Company. C. G. Cline, a member of the firm owning this store, is the post master. (Note: In the June 26, 1914 issue of the paper there is a notice of the dissolution of the firm of Washita Trading Co., E. Q. Franklin and C. G. Cline.
Unveiling Ceremony
The local camp Woodmen of the World held an unveiling ceremony at Highland Cemetery Sunday afternoon, attended by a large number of people. A nice program was prepared and rendered. Graves of three deceased sovereigns were unveiled.
Caddo Revival Meetings
The Christian Church of Caddo has been holding a very successful revival meeting in their new church there and report that much interest has been shown in the meetings. Rev. Bradley, pastor of the local Christian Church, was there for several days last week assisting with the meeting.
Caddo’s Carnival Catalog
Copies of the catalog of Caddo’s Corn Carnival are being circulated here. The booklet is nicely printed, consisting of forty pages and cover. The contents include many illustrations and every sort of information about the coming event, even to the premium list. This week a number of Caddo people toured the southern part of the county in autos advertising the event.
The following item was difficult for me to include. However, it was in the paper and is certainly indicative of attitude of the time.
Wilson Appointed Nigger
Washington, July 29- Pres. Wilson yesterday nominated for Registrar of the Treasury, Adam E. Patterson of Muskogee. Patterson is a negro lawyer. The position has for a long time been filled by a nigger.
