Schedule Packed for Caddo’s First
“Heritage Day” Activities
By Larry Marcy
Caddo- Excitement is in the air as residents of the northern Bryan County town prepare for the first annual Caddo Heritage Day, set to get under way at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The day’s activities will be staged in the historic downtown area, which has been spruced up for the event; and more “remodeling” is planned for the future.
If you haven’t been to Caddo in a while, there are some new sidewalks, street lights (of early day vintage type), and sidewalk benches, also in the old-fashioned style.
The Heritage Day celebration will begin at 9 a. m. with a flea market and arts and crafts shows.
The flea market will be on the corner of Buffalo and Arkansas streets, while the arts and crafts show will be in the Bryan County Primitive Bow Hunters’ building on Buffalo.
Free booth space is available for both events
Contests will begin at 9:30 with the “best-dressed” pet contest. Starting at 10:30 a. m. there will be a tow sack race, three-legged race, cow chip throwing, turtle race, candy scramble, seed spitting, egg toss, and kid calling (for moms only).
A liars contest will begin at 2:30 in front of city hall. That contest will be followed by a tug-of-war at 3:30 p. m.
Starting at 5 p.m. is a fiddler’s contest with two divisions- ages 4 to 17, and 18 years old and up.
Beginning at 6 p. m. musical entertainment is planned. Three groups- McGee Creek Blue Grass, New Life Singers, and The Mountain Music, will perform, along with special guest, 8-year-old Kelli Doolin.
Helping on the first Heritage Day celebration are the Caddo Jaycees and Caddo merchants.
