Bokchito News
Rain-rain. The creeks are up so the traveling public has camped on either side as they come to them. Railroad news has it that the bridges across Boggy, Caddo, and Blue Creeks are gone; in fact all the railway line where creeks are of any size. We learn the county road bridge across Blue between here and Durant is very badly damaged, if not entirely gone. The railroad bridge has landed against it and the drift is very heavy.
Well our town is still on the road upward in every respect; property changing hands every day from our people to strangers from a far off. It is bringing good prices. One of the proprietors of a Shawnee Bank has bought Joe Long’s buildings with a view of putting in a bank near that corner- so says madam rumor. Col. Saying has been here ten days buying property. He and Capt. Wade have now some eight or ten lots in all. Last, but not least, we had a newspaper plant in our town. It belongs to Mr. Clark, who was at Boswell City. Our paper will read “Bokchito Bulletin”. We wish it success and are glad Mr. Clark came to town.
Mrs. Joe Droke, who has been visiting Mrs. Hamilton for two weeks, returned Sunday to her home in Caddo.
Teachers Association at Durant Friday and Saturday. Teachers here, Mrs. Hamilton and Prof. Johnson, expect to attend if the roads are so they can get to Caddo to catch the train.
Our postmaster, F. A. McAleer is liked by everybody. He says he will have a money order department as soon as the appointment day comes and the department notifies him, which will be January 2, 1903.
Married
We had two marriages last week. Friday Mr. Bush Edwards and Miss Roena Evans were united in the holy bonds of wedlock. Their many friends wish them all the enjoyment that a married life contains.
The other couple was Mr. Andrew Ashford and Miss Annie Patterson. They went to Caddo to get married, yet they were Bokchito people. Rumor has it there is to be another wedding in the near future.
Mr. Harry D. Neely and Miss Myrtle May Terrill, two popular society people of Durant, were quietly married Sunday evening.
