Every house has its own physical layout, views, sounds, smells, and quirks. I you haven’t moved often you probably think that you just transfer your life to a new location and continue your schedule and routines as before. Not so…
I’ve already told family and friends that I’ve dubbed my new kitchen “the treadmill” because it is three times the size of my former kitchen and each time I cook a meal I feel like I’ve walked a mile. Obviously God’s plan for making sure I stay in shape. I’ve lost five pounds since we moved!
The living room in this house is a totally different size and orientation from our previous one and required the most thought and adjustment for furniture placement. After three tries, I finally found what works for us.
Believe it or not, the layout of the bedrooms and bathrooms in this house is nearly identical to our old house. The room sizes are close. The window placements are the only big differences. So there aren’t a lot of adjustments to be made in furniture placement. The paint colors are different but nothing I haven’t dealt with before.
The storage in this house is great! Lots of closet space and two hall storage cabinets. More storage in the bathrooms than we had at our old house. Even though I’m still doing some downsizing, it will be easy to find a place for everything I’m keeping.
At night this neighborhood is whisper quiet- reminiscent of previous homes in the country. I hadn’t even realized how much nighttime traffic there was in town until we moved out here. I’ve been sleeping soundly again and even sleeping a little later. One morning I slept ‘til 5:30! That’s rare for me.
We have a slightly larger patio space at the house. The biggest difference is that this one is covered! I think that will make a big difference in how and when we use it.
This yard is a bit smaller, which is something we need. Downsizing things like mowing is important as we get older. The biggest blessing here is that there are fewer trees. I know shade is a good thing, but cleaning up the leaves and needles from six massive, mature trees was a constant battle.
The view from my kitchen window is certainly going to be entertaining! We have already been welcomed by a variety of birds and even a few butterflies. I think they will be happy that the Maurers are calling this home.
