Although I’m not a fan of cold weather and I’m tempted to whine a bit about new aches and pains, I am very grateful that cold weather brings more birds to the feeders. Today set a record, at least for my time here: seventeen birds that I could recognize, plus one that I think I correctly identified. I’ll let one of my fellow birders corroborate. The goldfinches came in large flocks and the others drifted in a few at a time all day long. The greatest concentration was at lunch time, which meant I had the opportunity to watch and take photographs. I’m not really a “serious” birder. I don’t keep yearly lists and set goals, etc. I only know the names of about thirty birds. But I LOVE to feed the birds and watch them, so today was a terrific day!
