I’m a bit of a recluse in the summer. I generally stay home and spend time in the garden with the critters. I go out to shop once a week and do research at the library. Most of my summer life is quiet and peaceful. So returning to school is a “sensory overload”. Today will be filled with people and talking and laughter and summer stories as the staff gets together for our first meeting. Tomorrow’s open house will bring new names and faces to memorize. Thursday will be the start of a year-long marathon of talking and laughter and stories and perhaps a few tears. And although the school year is anything but peaceful, I enjoy this part of my life just as much the other. Having both creates harmony and balance for me.
This is also the time of year when I have to shift gears and make lists in order to get things done. No more “whatever, whenever” attitude! I have to stop by the pharmacy after school today. Have to go to the clinic and pick up my vitamins. I have a list of things I need to do each day between now and next Monday. After a month or so my students will start saying, “Put that on your list Mrs. Maurer.” lol
So…here we go! Talking, laughter, stories….
