I wasn’t in great shape when I wandered out to the garden this morning. A minor medical problem kept me up an hour beyond my bedtime. So I was a bit sore and sleepy, and yes, just a little cranky. I’ve been mad at my body lately for not being more cooperative and enthusiastic about my plans and projects.
Just to be stubborn I decided to whack a few weeds in the front flower bed. So, yes I had the hoe, NOT the camera, in my hand when NINE Canada geese flew overhead and honked at me! Another disappointment and more crankiness! I whacked at the weeds for another fifteen minutes and then decided to get the camera and just water a few plants.
What happened next changed my mood for the whole day! I stood under the shade of the live oak tree and watched the bunnies and the squirrel and the birds eating breakfast. Often when I stand in one spot long enough they all begin to ignore me. Well, the woodpecker flew over to the peach tree to add a little fruit to his diet and I snapped a few photos. Then the squirrel wandered over and stopped a few feet from the tree. She looked directly at me and I got the impression she was making an important decision!
She ran to the base of the tree and scurried up as quickly as possible. Of course the woodpecker flew off! Then the squirrel plucked a peach, sat on a limb, and devoured it within a couple of minutes! In the meantime I kept walking closer and closer. She looked up a couple of times, but it was obvious that she wasn’t going to give up her treasure!
After I took a couple of photos I laughed out loud and thanked God for the change in my attitude. The fun and games never end around here!
