Yesterday we read “The Rain Came Down”. It’s about people in a community being cranky and irritable because their plans are spoiled by a rain shower.
Later in the morning we read “When a Storm Comes”. It’s about the types and dangers of storms.
We needed both books!
I don’t think we’ve ever had such a storm during school hours. It was dark, loud, and produced heavy rains and even heavier hearts for a few hours. When the lights flickered a few times we had to review our “freeze and wait” procedure. We talked about thunder a few more times. I had to reassure a few of my students that our building is the safest in town and we could wait in our cafeteria/safe-room if necessary. Thankfully the sun returned and we enjoyed the rest of our day.
When I got home there wasn’t a puddle anywhere! Gary said, “What rain?” lol I walked around and took the photos you see here.
A few hours later a cloud settled over our house and we got our share of rain and hail and thunder! That’s what our weatherman means when he says “scattered showers”! And yes, I was a bit cranky because I couldn’t use the internet.
Spring is here! Time to be prepared for anything: rain, hail, thunder, lightning, tornadoes. Be sure you know where and how to find shelter if you need it.
