My students have been discussing recycling, water conservation, and other good habits that will enable them to be better citizens of the planet as they get older.
We have also been using our Atlases to take a better look at that planet.
Oh, my! The world of a kindergartner is so personal! They got very excited about the fact that Calera, Oklahoma is where they live and it’s on a map of the United States- with Florida (because that’s where Disney World is) and also Colorado (because that’s where many go in the summer to camp and play). They also love the habitat maps and want to know why we can’t have bigger bears or be closer to the swamps where there are alligators. Lol
While kindergartners may have a slightly skewed sense of how the world works, the one thing we have talked about the most is that each of us, no matter how young or old, big or little, can do SOMETHING to make the world a better place to live. I hope you do your part today!
