My, oh, my, what a way to begin July! Did you see that forecast??? 84 degrees with an overnight low of 60! I can’t remember the last time we saw those numbers in the middle of summer. I’m sure there is someone, somewhere, who has a “gloom and doom” theory about why our national temperatures have been so erratic this year, but I’m going to ignore the impending disaster of global warming today and just enjoy the cool weather. Several tasks around here that I will be able to do in comfort!
Of course I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge this morning that the weather is literally deadly hot in other areas of the country. I worry about my California friends and family members. I mourn with my Arizona friends over the tragic loss of their firefighters. It made me sick to my stomach to read of their deaths. It seems there have been far too many fires in recent years.
Fire terrifies me. We have had several family members injured and two killed in fires. I have mentioned before that my brother was injured in a brush fire and I was badly singed as a child while lighting an oven. So fire safety is often on my mind. And this is the week we should all be very aware of fire dangers. The 4th of July is a day of celebration, but the way we celebrate it always leads to at least a few injuries and deaths. Grilling, fireworks, and alcohol frequently add up to tragedy!
So…day one. Be careful. Stay safe. Pray for the families of the firefighters.
