I realized today that I have been writing this blog since 2005. By the end of this summer I will not only mark off eight years, but 2,000 posts. Who ever thought one old grandmother would have so much to say? In case the summer gets busy and the milestone goes unnoticed, I just thought I would say thanks now, while it is on my mind. I appreciate each and every one of you who takes the time to read my words and share my thoughts. I know there are a lot of other options online and many blogs are much more entertaining and important than mine.
As we begin a new week I want to encourage you to consider doing a few things that I have been trying to do this summer:
Take better care of yourself. If you want to spend many more years using your body you had better treat it well. Stop feeding it junk fuel. Stop stressing it with anger and worry. Stop expecting it to perform without rest and sleep. Most of you treat your cars better than you do your body!
Count your blessings. No matter what is troubling you, there are at least a few things in your life that are going well. And no matter how great your pain, someone else is suffering more. That may not make your burden go away, but perspective can often keep problems from seeming overwhelming.
Do something you love. You can’t spend your whole life working, sleeping, and working. Find a hobby or project or activity that makes you smile, and do it as often as you can.
Go outside. I know many of you are “indoor” people, but there is something restorative about spending at least part of each day outside in nature. Try to spend a little time getting to know and appreciate the plants and animals in your area. Watch the sunrise or sunset. Count some stars!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We all like to be independent, but there are people in our lives who are more than happy to talk with us, pray for us, and encourage us if we just humble ourselves enough to ask.
I hope you have a blessed day!
