I was out in the garden just after 7am.
This little group of Purple Martins gathered to watch me work. I imagine they were saying bad things about me since I don’t have a Martin house anymore. They watched me for more than half an hour- I am not kidding! I even went in the house to get the camera. Not one of them moved when I returned. They finally flew off when a couple of cow birds tried to join them. I imagine they flew back to my friend’s house on the next hill. She has three Martin houses!
I was sipping my first glass of iced tea by 9am. Wow! It warms up quickly when you are outside with a hoe and shovel. Yes, I had my “cooling towel” on my neck and I still like it! Works for me.
When I stopped to water a bit I discovered that the grasshoppers and caterpillars are already hard at work. There are little bites and holes everywhere. Oh, well, maybe there is enough to share.
The double-flowered daylilies are blooming! They are one of my summer favorites. I praise Wanda every year for giving me a start of them.
I have ripe tomatoes, but they seldom make it to the house. Since they are tiny cherry ones I just munch on them while I water. The okra is also starting to make those little pods I love to fry!
A grape vine that has not produced one single grape in three years finally has one little cluster!! Not sure what the big difference is this year, but it made me smile to see it.
I made Jello, homemade ice cream, and coleslaw today. Gary will be happy when he gets home from work!
Hope you enjoyed your summer day!!
BTW- I thought this was so funny. The skunk returned last night, ate a bit, got a drink, and then seemed to just collapse next to the water tub. She/he was still for at least a couple of minutes or longer. Then scurried over to eat some more.
