It’s been a great day! Started out with a quick trip to town to get the mail and ended up seeing a friend I haven’t seen in months. So good to visit for a moment.
BTW, the new cattle guard is in place and it’s great!
Returned home and worked in the yard. Actually finished some tasks despite the cold wind. I just told Gary that I couldn’t wait for better weather because we might not get any.
Went to the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge and enjoyed a walk through the woods. Saw some cedar waxwings- one of my favorite birds. Barely managed to get a photo because they were in the shade and also in a tangle of vines that makes it difficult to focus. Finally managed a couple of shots.
Talked to some guys who were making a LOT of noise cutting down trees. They explained that they have been cutting down cedars- 60 so far- in order to let the other trees have more water. Cedar trees use up an excessive amount of water and spread like kudzu around here.
Also drove to a newly renovated pond/marsh area and saw a cinnamon teal. First time I’ve seen one in the wild. So pretty! The marsh area where they were was filled with ducks, but we heard more of them than we saw. And I didn’t get any wonderful photos because my lens wasn’t quite powerful enough for the distances I was up against. Still enjoyed watching them through the binoculars.
During our walk I saw a movement and watched a brown butterfly settle into the leaves. I took a photo of it, then pointed it out to Gary. He didn’t believe it was real until I finally touched it and it flew away. LOL I have no idea what it is called. There were also lots of other butterflies around that would not pose for me. Saw my first dragon fly of the year!
We stopped in town for a cup of coffee and an ice cream, only read a note on the door of the DQ that said the whole town was without water. Turns out that a water main broke and everything had been shut down since noon. Oh, well, maybe I need to quit eating ice cream in the middle of the day!
Home to work on my jigsaw puzzle and do a few chores. I could get used to not working!
