I was not prepared to go from t-shirt to coat in one day! Though we have all complained of the continued heat and drought this past month, the sudden dip to less than 50 degrees was a shock to my system and I spent a less than pleasant weekend trying to cope with the results.
Friday night I guess I got too cold, even though I put a blanket on the bed. That is my only explanation for the fact that I got about four hours of sleep. The rest of the time I was awake with leg cramps and knee pain.
Saturday morning we went to Heritage Day and enjoyed the race and parade and visiting with friends and neighbors. However, by noon my legs and especially my knees were making further protests about the cold. I tolerate cold in small doses, like in between trips from the house to the car, or for a few minutes while I go outside to fill the bird feeders. I do not like to be in it for hours and hours. I stumbled slightly while stepping off the curb and decided it was best to go home and rest. A two-hour nap is a wonderful thing!
After my nap I got the flannel sheets and electric blanket out of storage. I know how to battle against the cold! Saturday night’s slumber was much more comfortable.
Of course now our forecast has gone back to milder temperatures and warmer nights. But Saturday was a harsh reminder that cold and more cold is ahead. Time to buy hot chocolate, get out more blankets, fill up the propane tank, check the weather stripping….get ready!

We turned the heat on this weekend and got the heating pad out for our cat's bed. I'm holding off on lighting the fireplaces, but our lows are into the 30's now. I love winter clothing but the cold seemed to come far too soon this year. Brrr.
Stay warm! And I'll look into that hot chocolate requirement for you. Flavor requests?
