Today I fully intended to work on some obituaries, finish the laundry, make ice cream, and upload some photos for a book. Of course that was before I looked out the window and saw the big yellow swallowtail butterfly fluttering from zinnia to zinnia. You know I had to go out and get a shot of that!
Well, by the time I put on my shoes and grabbed the camera the butterfly was fluttering way out in the pasture. I turned to go back into the house when a flock of geese gracefully descended on the pond and gathered at the far bank. I watched them for a few minutes, took a couple of disappointing photos and then decided I’d just try to walk down to the pond for a better shot.
Who knew an old lady could stalk a flock of wild geese? And who knew the geese would be too tired to do more than just move away and squawk a little? They certainly avoided me, but didn’t fly off! In fact, they have been on the pond all day.
On the way back I encountered more dragonflies, a damselfly, more butterflies, a new calf, and the lovely squirrel that raids all of our bird feeders. All in all a “picture perfect” day that started out with a wild goose chase!
And I did make ice cream!

Best wild goose chase ever.
