I just want to take a few minutes this morning to thank everyone who reads my rambling thoughts each day, or each week, or whatever. I noticed on the “stats” view of my blog that yesterday was my 1,670th post. That’s a bunch of words! My father always told me I talked too much!
I also noticed that I’ve received 1,407 comments. And of course I’ve gotten others through email and FB. I want to apologize to anyone who has ever gotten the impression that I don’t care about them. I do! Very much! However, because of time and misplaced brain cells, I don’t always reply directly to comments that are on the blog. That doesn’t mean I haven’t read each and every one and appreciated them.
When I first started blogging I just thought it would be a nice extension of my other writing. I had written numerous articles and had contributed chapters to four books. I had done some essays and opinion pieces for various magazines and newspapers. A blog seemed more personal and less restrictive than meeting editorial guidelines. Even though a daily blog seemed challenging I thought I was quite capable of handling it. I remembering remarking to my daughter, “How hard could it be? I could write 700 words about dryer lint!” Ironic now that I look back. Some posts have been incredibly difficult to write, both from a personal and professional perspective.
I suppose what has surprised me the most about blogging is how much it has changed me. This has been a personal journey that has forced me to confront my ideas and values and at times my fears. I have also met, both virtually and physically, some incredible people. Without their comments on my blogs I would not have known they even existed. Now I treasure their friendship!
I know that writing is in my genes, since I’m a member of at least the fourth generation of our family to write publicly. That’s one of the reasons I continue to do this. The other reason is that YOU are reading. And again, I thank you for that.
The mind works in mysterious ways. I’m not sure what I’ll find to write about in the coming weeks, but you can be sure that if you have any thoughts or comments about anything you want to know or read…I’m listening.
