I was sitting here yesterday afternoon studying a book titled “Jews in Oklahoma” and making notes pertaining to a new book I’m writing, when I suddenly thought, “I am so strange.”
I mean, honestly, how many people sit around on a hot Sunday afternoon studying immigration and population statistics? Most people are out at the lake or enjoying time with their families or reading a crime mystery or at the very least, polishing their nails. What is wrong with me?
One day this week I postponed lunch an hour so I could finish adding headstones to Find a Grave.
Tuesday I spent an hour reading archived issues of The American Jewish Yearbook.
Thursday I was excited about finding a 1957 property listing for a family I’m researching.
Saturday I researched three early Bryan county merchants.
Today I’m trying to find at least twenty minutes in my schedule for a stop at the library to look for a 1913 obituary.
At the BBQ on Saturday someone came up and asked me a Caddo history question…and I knew the answer. Am I becoming the town nerd? I guess so.

There are worse things to be passionate about. Your "hobby" enriches others.
