I have been watching less and less television over the past couple of years. Tired of nudity, uniforms, and stupidity. Most of the “reality” shows aren’t even close to mine. There is so much sex and skin in some shows I don’t know how people with children dare to even flip through channels. And commercials aren’t any safer than shows! (Jack should be ashamed and VS should be banned!) I’m not sure what our fascination is with cops and doctors and other people in uniform but I think there must be some other profession out there that is just waiting to be discovered. I’m even tired of shows that I used to find entertaining- simply because they have reached the limits of story lines and creativity. Time to retire them gracefully. And please do not ask me what I think of the “comedy” that is on the screen. Who writes that trash????? Stupid, stupid, stupid. (My apologies to my mother, who never let us call anyone that!)
Which brings me to today’s title. Gary and I have always found America’s Got Talent to be amusing and entertaining. While it has had its share of disgusting moments and less-than-talented people, it has generally been a “family” show and discovered some gifted people that I’m happy to have seen and heard. I guess I will have to miss those this summer because I refuse to watch Howard Stern. Absolutely will not sink that low. I admit to my previous sins- several seasons of Survivor, a few episodes of Big Brother, Two and a Half Men, So You Think You Can Dance?- I’m not perfect. I even watch Judge Judy when I’m down and need a laugh. But one has to draw a line somewhere. And Howard is mine.
So, thanks to AGT and Howard I will be doing more reading, writing, gardening, and photographing, because I will definitely NOT be sitting in front of the television watching an icon of immorality.
