Little things sometimes drive me crazy! While watching Idol last night I was instantly distracted by the Ford commercial and its campaign slogan: Go Further! I honestly had to sit there and try to decide if they were bragging about fuel economy, in which case Go Farther! would be correct, or if they meant to advance the concept of “going green, saving the planet, etc.” which would make Go Further! correct. My husband was quick to point out that most people don’t care. But I do!
My eighth grade English teacher is totally to blame for my mental dilemma! She not only taught such quirky bits of information, but she somehow made them stick in my brain. She was also great at teaching little tricks for remembering how to spell words. I can spell “separate” because she told me to visualize “a rat” sitting in the word. I still do! And she made us spend hours diagramming sentences. Most people don’t even know what that means. Take a moment to view and ponder the Reed-Kellogg diagram method.
I can only hope that something I teach in my classroom will stay in the brains of my little ones and affect them one day.
And there is another lesson- effect vs. affect!
Thanks again Mrs. K!

I loved to diagram sentences in middle school. I've actually thought several times over the years to find out how to do it again. It's been too many decades for me.
