We got the call last night. My “mother-in-law” died Friday in California. Gary’s brother was a little slow in contacting us, understandably so, since he lives nearby and has been more involved in her life. Lots to take care of when someone dies. I put her title in quotes because Viola or “Vi” as she was called, was not my husband’s mother, nor even his step-mother, but his father’s third wife. They actually married the year before we did. And she was just shy of ten years his junior, so she always seemed more like a friend than a mother-in-law. She had children and a big family. We enjoyed some happy times together. She was a sweet woman and always very kind to us. She was a dedicated nurse and a devoted mother and grandmother. After Gary’s dad died she remarried, to a Canadian, and they spent part of each year in Canada and part in California. We always got wonderful stories and photos from them!
Vi was 83. These are my two favorite photos of her. With us. With Robert. And a sweet picture of the girls at Vi’s daughter’s wedding. Both beautiful such women!
She will be missed by many…

I'm so sorry.
