I am so out of shape!! No, it’s okay. I don’t need a pat on the back this morning and I’m not talking about how I look. I’m talking about tired achy joints and sore muscles and overwhelming fatigue. I was ready to fall asleep at 8pm last night, but I made myself wait until 9pm. I’m hoping that was just my body’s reaction to the first day of school, but I suspect it is also a reminder that I have spent far too much time under the AC this summer and not as much time out in the garden as usual! This heat and drought has affected everything! We are still facing at least another week of heat, but the numbers are coming down. Now the forecast is only 100.
Yes, I let the weather distract me for a moment. Back to “out of shape”. I seriously need to get moving again! I know school will provide me with more opportunities for walking. However, I need to do some stretching and a little weight lifting. I hope that by saying it here, “out loud”, in front of my friends and family, I will stay more motivated to make it happen. Remind me in a few weeks!
Yesterday was a reminder that my mind has also been focused on other skills this summer and needs to get back into mother/teacher/friend mode. It is a challenge to remember seventeen new faces and names, take care of their needs, understand their personalities, and oh, yes, start teaching them to read. I think that’s what I like most about teaching- I’m using the same basic knowledge and skills each year and I have the same basic goals, but I get to use them with an entirely different group with different challenges. Keeps me sharp!
