Despite the heat and drought this has been a great summer. I’ve finished several projects, visited with friends and family, taken some short trips, worked on my research, and enjoyed my garden. I’ve had some interesting encounters with nature and taken some pretty good photos. I’ve stayed fairly healthy and avoided any major accidents. There have been some pleasant surprises and a few necessary changes in our little world. All in all, a summer I’ll remember with gratitude. God has blessed me and I am fully aware of it.
Last night I got this pleasant surprise! I was cooking dinner, glanced out the window, and realized that a painted bunting was feeding on the milo that has sprouted up around the feeder! They are supposed to be common in our area, but I haven’t seen one in several years. After looking in my bird guide I realized I’ve actually been watching the female for several days. She is an odd yellow-green color and I couldn’t quite identify her. She feeds each evening in the shade near the kitchen window that has a screen, so I haven’t attempted a photo. Maybe she will soon join the male in the sunlight. This guy left and came back several times before sunset. I’ll look for them again today.
I’m trying to prioritize next week’s projects since it will be the last full week of summer break. The first week of August I will be working in my classroom! I’m actually excited about it. I know…I’m a strange woman.
Have a wonderful day! Make someone smile.

He is gorgeous!
