There are few things I miss about having young children as much as I miss the magic of make believe. I loved being Santa, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy, etc. There is nothing quite as precious as the look on a child’s face when their “every dream” has come true! Of course you have a limited window of opportunity for that magic, even with small children. They quickly go from being delighted by anything and everything to comparing what they got with what they actually asked for, and then on to comparing what they got with what the neighbor’s kids got. Then the magic begins to fade…
Even our grandchildren are now beyond the magic stage- the youngest one turns thirteen in a few weeks and this year made a list for the “Easter bunny”. Lol Maybe that is one of the reasons I enjoy kindergarten so much. I get to live in that Never-Never Land where there are always children who believe!
Holidays were also a joy for me during the years when I sewed with a modicum of skill and a whole lot of enthusiasm. I loved making dolls and teddy bears and bunnies and pretty new dresses and suits. Of course not all of my children were forever appreciative. Robert still refers to his blue Easter suit as his “pimp suit” and wants to know why I felt like punishing him that year!
All of our holidays have gone “over the top” with commercialism and greed, but I was delighted to hear many of my students mention Jesus in connection with Easter. I think they actually made more references to and are more aware of the religious significance of Easter than of Christmas. Christmas has evolved into such a spectacle that it is easy to forget why we celebrate it. Easter still has a simplicity that allows children to put things into perspective. One of my students explained the Easter story to her classmates. One wrote a note for Jesus. Several painted crosses on the big paper eggs we made. Many told me of plans to attend church. My role as a public school teacher does not allow me to “teach or preach” about religious topics, but I can sure listen with a smile on my face!
So the “night before Easter” finds me with many happy memories and the overwhelming urge to embarrass my children. Sorry Robert…

Great pictures! I have zero sewing ablitity! Yours is wonderful!! Thanks again for sharing!

Hey, I'd totally put Noah in the pimp suit if I had it. But everything old has come back into fashion these days. . .
Easter eve. Jocelyn went to bed tonight hoping the Easter Bunny puts a chocolate bunny on her bed again. Totally forgot we did that last year. It was a weather situation.
Never Never Land is a wonderful place to be!
