“Ladybird, ladybird fly away home,
Your house is on fire and your children are alone.”
Children all over the world have learned some version of that little verse.
I spotted this ladybird beetle yesterday and couldn’t help but smile. My students having been catching these cute insects for the past week. They are a traditional favorite of schoolchildren everywhere- easy to catch, usually harmless, and of course pretty. The lady bug is one of our most helpful insects and always welcome in my garden.
It warms my heart to know that some of the delights of childhood remain the same from one generation to the next. Despite games and videos and ipods, my students still speak in excited whispers of catching lady bugs and fireflies, chasing butterflies and playing in mud puddles. Some things should never change!
Woke up to more rain showers! We are trying to make up for our months of drought with a week of rain. Okay with me…as long as we continue to escape the hail and high winds.
Have a great day!

Oh, the childhood joys of ladybugs and fireflys in the Oklahoma weather. Brings back some wonderful memories with my sister.
