I spoke yesterday about blessings and my evening was certainly blessed in many ways. One of the things I love most about the country, and this place in particular, is that I never know what will be out and about to entertain and bless me! My commute home was a bit disturbing because there were ominous clouds, a little rain, and news of a possible tornado sighting north of us. However, by the time I arrived at the house it was relatively calm and most of the storm had passed us by. I was disappointed that we didn’t receive more rainfall, but pleased to be able to walk around the yard. I have become more and more addicted to my evening walks!
A pair of geese graced the pond for a while and then another group of four joined them and there was quite a bit of honking and wing flapping until the first pair appeared to agree to share the pond. Then they floated around for a while and allowed me to take a few photos before honking loudly at me and flying off. I heard them return when I was cooking dinner and could still hear them late into the evening.
I witnessed another interesting confrontation between two skippers. I swear one of them was trying to dislodge the other from a flower! It flew at the other one several times and actually pushed it over to the side three times, but the brave soul managed to stay attached to the flower and the bully skipper finally chose another flower. I should write a children’s story about the brave little butterfly and the bully butterfly! Lol Yes, my mind works in mysterious ways…
The woodpecker seemed to be unhappy about something…probably my presence in the yard. Or perhaps he was complaining about the fact that I haven’t put suet out for him lately. I can’t figure out how to keep the raccoons from eating it! They have actually opened the suet cage several times, despite the fact that I have wired it closed. I’m not sure how they manage!
My last two happy surprises of the evening were a phone call from my son, and the results of my students’ testing. After I had a nice chat with Robert, I completed the grading of our major spring test. Wonderful, wonderful scores!! I am amazed once again by the progress of this class!!
So I went to bed last night with a happy heart and slept soundly. Hope you did too!
Have a great day!
