Day 5

 
 

I’m not sure if I should call this the “storm of 2011” or “test of a marriage”. LOL Gary and I have been stuck in the house together for nearly a week! Luckily we have our own interests, as well as a shared love of old movies. We have rattled around without arguing or going crazy. So I give us an “A”. Perhaps this is a sign that we might actually enjoy retirement in a few years!

 

 

This has also been a test of our winter preparations and I think we only get a “C”. Our normal Oklahoma warm/cold/warm winter pattern has made us a little lazy. We need to go back to the good habits we learned during our winter in Iowa! We have enough food left for another four days or a little longer if we stretched it out. I generally store enough food for about two weeks. I think we need to start keeping enough for at least a month!  And we need to make sure we keep more cat food, bird seed, and fish food for our critters. We also need to put snow melt on the porch the first day that it snows, and NOT wait until the door is frozen shut and we have to go out the back door.

 

There is hope that we will get out of here today and be able to stock up and prepare for the next round, due Wednesday. We might even get our mail!!

 

The critters were entertaining yesterday. Gary and I walked in the yard a bit and he cleared off the front porch while I took pictures. Buddy rolled in the snow and made a cat version of a snow angel. The birds hopped around in the snow despite the fact that I was in the yard with them. One of the calves chased the heron! He startled it at first and the heron flew up and landed back in the same spot. Then the calf walked up to him and he flew higher, circled, and landed a few feet away. I guess that was entertaining because then the calf took a run at him and the heron flew to the other side of the pond.  I was lucky to have the camera in my hand.

 

 

Love, love, love the shot of the cardinal with snow on his beak. Even though it isn’t quite as clear as I had hoped, I think it sums up the whole week!  And I also like this one of the sparrow with snow on his feet.

 

I suppose we might have school on Monday. For now I’m just taking one day at a time.

Jocelyn says: We have big icicles here too! Especially the humongo ones. Our cats would never roll in the snow. How does she get him to do that? We have that bird too!

Megan says: I would love to spend five days trapped with my husband but I'd also have three small children with us. So maybe not.
