Two months. Eight weeks. 57 days. Okay, so it isn’t official. It isn’t like March 21 is the actual last day of cold weather. We have been known to get a late freeze in April. However, we also get a few warm days in February, so as of this week, I’m watching the ground. And I have already been rewarded by the sight of daffodils poking through the soil! Let the planning begin!
I received a catalog from van Bourgondien They have some remarkable daylilies although I need to show a bit of restraint since they are $16.99-$19.99 each. They also carry some very interesting coneflowers (Echinacea) including Green Jewel, and Pink Double Delight.
If you are looking for something bit different this year, go to Burpee’s website and check out these lovely specimens:
Petunia- Phantom
Marigold- Chameleon
Morning Glory- Cotton Candy
Zinnia- Queen Red Lime (I am definitely trying this one!)
Also, if you need inspiration, my favorite garden magazines are Horticulture and Oklahoma Gardener.
For those of you who are local, the Bryan County Conservation District (office at 200 Gerlach, Durant, OK, 580-924-5464) is having their spring tree sale. Tree lists are available, and trees must be ordered by February 18. Deliver will be approximately March 11, and trees must be picked up within three days. I plan to order some redbuds.
Hang in there! Green is just around the corner…

I'm green with envy at your green. We are SO not there.
I'm ogling our plant catalogs almost to the point of repentance--but not quite. : )
