There are numerous news reports this week about the dangers of driving while drowsy. Apparently it is becoming a serious driving hazard, right up there with cell phone use and drinking. I have to admit that I have done it myself, often because of medications. And I had a frightening experience a few years ago when I worked an hour away from home. I doubt that anyone can say they have never dozed off at the wheel.
I guess what is alarming is that the numbers are increasing and the drowsy drivers are getting younger. More people are victims of overloaded schedules and poor sleep habits. And this is one of those gray problems that we can’t legislate away.
So…get some sleep. Be cautious if you are taking cold medicines or blood pressure medications. Be aware that the familiar commute can become boring and you can “zone out”.
Be careful out there!
