The sky was filled with clouds this morning, so instead of sitting down to write, I went out to the yard to mow. By the time I finished it was nearly eight o’clock and I watched a few minutes of the morning news. They had a great segment about budget camping gear and I was pleasantly surprised by the items available.
We used to own it all- tents, backpacks, stoves of all kinds and sizes, sleeping bags, tarps, lanterns, etc. We spent summers hiking and camping and picnicking with our sometimes less-than-enthusiastic children. “How much farther do we have to walk?” “My bag is on a rock!” “I dropped my marshmallow on the ground.”
Since this is the first day of July I thought it would be fun to just embarrass my children with a few of my favorite summer photos of us camping, swimming, and picnicking. The quality of some of them is poor because they are scanned slides that are over 30 years old! But I’m sure my children will appreciate the memories. You can thank me later! (And at least one of them will point out that this camp scene actually took place while we were moving, but we always used the same equipment and this was a better shot.)
Hope you are having some fun this summer!
