Karen told me last night that she is sending me an article about a woman’s childhood memories of bologna. I can’t wait to read it! My own childhood is filled with memories of bologna. It was our staple food for years!
We often bought bologna in big rolls or slabs. Mom sliced some for sandwiches and cut little chunks to add to macaroni and cheese, or beans, or omelets. But the best thing she did was fry it! I loved fried bologna!
To fry bologna properly you have to cut little slits around the edges or it curls up like a bowl and the edges won’t cook. And you have to fry it in Crisco. At least that is what Mom always did. J I’ve heard that butter is even better.
I remember when Dad sent us to the store to get supplies for our lunch. We were picking cotton and we were just a block from the local market. He gave us a dollar to buy a jar of mayonnaise, a loaf of bread, and a pound of bologna!! Try that today.
Can’t wait to read the article. Do you have memories of bologna?

We ate baloney, but Spam was used more like your childhood: cut into squares for mac and cheese, fried up with pan fried potatoes, etc. I remember being a kid and on a few occasions getting to eat the fancy balogna that required us to remove the red strip around the outside. We perfected our technique to have no balogna pulled off with that shiny red circle. What a funny thing to remember!

I loved bologna sandwiches and had them in my school lunch! I still like bologna but don't buy it for some reason. I don't think Walt would eat it. I also like hot dogs cold so I guess that is about the same as bologna.
