Yes, that’s right. I’ve been on the path to a healthier lifestyle for a week and I’m still carrying the same baggage!! Haven’t lost a single pound. This is the story of my life. But if you won’t get discouraged, I won’t. I’ve certainly made some changes in the past week that will eventually show up on the scale. Let’s not throw up our hands yet.
First of all, I bought a pretty plate that is a bit smaller than our regular dinner plates and is also slightly sloped on the sides. It also has a pattern that creates the effect of making it look fuller with less food on it. But the most important thing is that the pattern is called “Happy Days”!! You bet I grabbed it up when I read that! J
Second, I walked on the treadmill five days last week for fifteen minutes each day. Goal for this week is five days at twenty minutes each. I’m not going to set any records for a while! Just taking the time to establish a good habit. I’ve read that it takes at least thirty days to incorporate something new into your schedule and make it stick.
One of the things I decided this week is that I’m not going to dwell on the “bad” things I did. In fact, I’m not even going to use that word again. Here are the things I wish I hadn’t done last week: ate too many cookies one day, ate too much pizza Tuesday night, ate cheese cake for dessert when we went out Saturday. Here are the things I’m glad I did: ate more fruit, ate more vegetables, switched our favorite vegetable soup to one with less sodium and fewer calories, ate less bread, didn’t buy chicken nuggets when I went shopping, and ate fish three times.
Gary and I have also made a commitment to support each other in this endeavor. He is also walking and doesn’t complain about any food changes I’m making. There was a little groaning when I parked two extra rows away from Books-A-Million, but it was good-natured groaning. “Extra steps” is our new mantra!
My niece suggested I buy a pedometer. I’m looking into that this week. Karen is eating breakfast and packing her own lunch. Katrina is still going to the gym. My brother and his wife are changing all of the oils (mayo, etc) they use. I hope you are making some small change that will help you become healthier!
Happy Birthday!!!
This is two blogs in one today because Katrina is 39!! Yes, honey I put that number out there in print, because we all read your blog too, and now you have a year to come up with a new title for it! Fabulous Forty sounds good!
Please pray for Katrina and Hope today. Katrina is in the middle of the worst snowstorm Vermont has had in a hundred years. Here is the report from their local weather site:
Record daily maximum snowfall set at Burlington...
A record snowfall of 16.4 inches was set at Burlington Vermont
yesterday. This breaks the old record of 7.7 inches set in 1996.
From 700 am Saturday morning until midnight Sunday night... storm
total snowfall at the Burlington International Airport was 33.1
inches.
Our Hope has been trying to get home from her vacation in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was stuck at the airport for eleven hours. She finally made it to Montreal, but now we need to pray that she makes it all the way home today. The forecast is for snow, snow, snow.
Also have an update on John. He was doing great when we visited with him Saturday, and should be able to go home today or tomorrow. Still has some therapy and lifestyle changes and medication in his future, but he is on the road to recovery.
I'm back to school today! Have a great Monday!

great post and good luck to you mary!!!

Great Monday post! Loving your plate. I try to eat off my salad plates--they're the size of dinner plates from the 1950's. I'll try to find an article I read that pointed this jumbo sizing of everything out and email it to you.
And I got on my treadmill this morning thinking of you.
