We’ve all seen the horrible images this week from the devastation in Haiti. The sad, heart-wrenching scenes make us grateful for the blessings of our own life, and they prompt us to offer help to those who have lost so much. Crisis always brings out the best in humanity. Perhaps this is what God intended. Or perhaps these things are just the result of nature set into motion. My feeble brain can’t always find answers to the big questions. And I think that is exactly what God intended- we aren’t meant to know, only to have faith in the ultimate outcome. This too shall pass and the next generation will be stronger and more determined to carry on. They will remember exactly where they were and what they were doing and what they lost when the “big one” hit, and it will shape and define their new life.
The magnitude of this crisis makes it a test for the rest of the world. What can we do? How quickly and efficiently can we do it? What will it cost? How will we pay for it? How long can we sustain our support? The answers will certainly impact the future of every one of us.
