I always envied my mom because she had something she always promised me, but never delivered- sisters. Juanita, Betty, and Carolyn were a blessing to Mom and have always been three of my favorite women. My aunts are all amazing, accomplished women. They were great role models for me growing up, even though I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with them. When we did get together I tried to pay attention! They taught me so much about working hard and serving God and loving people. And I was always fascinated by the similarities and differences between them and Mom. I was always observing and analyzing and trying to decide what my sister would be like if I had one.
If I did have a sister she would be like my cousin Evelyn. We are six months apart and for years we played together and planned our lives. We were going to have at least a dozen children and rich husbands and big farms. Not exactly how things turned out, but we are still close.
Today I get to see my aunts and Evelyn and other cousins for lunch. I’m so excited that we have finally coordinated our schedules to make this possible! I’ll post photos later. Here is one of Mom and her sisters (they are in front) and one of Evelyn and me with Carolyn and Betty.
