Today is my husband’s birthday. We never make a “big deal” out of our birthdays unless they end in a zero. We go out to dinner and we usually pick out our own gift- something we’ve secretly wanted, but haven’t hinted about, something foolish or fun. However, as we each get older we realize how precious our birthdays are and how privileged we are to spend them together. We’ve talked about friends who are no longer together because of death or divorce. We know each day together is a gift.
I think what surprises me is that Gary and I still get along so well. Oh, we fuss and fume like anyone else. We get cranky about each other’s habits. He’s forgetful, I’m bossy. He whistles, I straighten things. After nearly forty years together you know what to ignore.
We’re also relatively healthy. Other than arthritis and blood pressure problems Gary is in good shape for an old man! So I hope I’m writing a birthday message when he is ninety!
Happy 66th Birthday to my favorite “car fanatic”! This photo shows the beginning of his obsession. Lol
