Well, I managed to watch part of the opening ceremony last night. Just phenomenal!! It's amazing to see what you can do with thousands of people and LOTS of money. However, the Olympics has already been marred by the murder of an American, a member of the family of the coach for the men's volleyball team. So sad.
And I guess you saw the news that men in politics lie, lie, lie. Not that we didn't already know that- but I hate to hear yet another reminder. Each time they catch a politician in a scandal I can't help but wonder what other lies they have told. It seems that we can't believe anyone these days. How can we ever choose a leader for our country when there aren't any real "leaders" to be found?
One of the lessons I learned early in life is that if you start telling lies you can't keep them all straight, and sooner or later the lies will catch up with you. That's one of the things I tell my students every day. Just "tell the truth and deal with the consequences". And I try to reward their honesty by being more understanding. But you'd better know right up front that I won't cut you any slack if you lie to me first!! I guess that's why I find the lies of those in power so offensive. They are so adament and so convincing. And they'll stick to the lie until it is revealed by someone else.
I'll be glad when the election is over. The very idea of power causes men to behave badly.
