I'm basically an organized person- although the current condition of my home, my office in particular, is evidence to the contrary. This is the time of year when I know I should continue my routine, keep things going, and do my filing. But my subconscious evil twin keeps saying "you'll be out of school in two weeks- let it go". So I'm at loose ends this week. Trying to finish a dozen little things at school, letting stuff pile up here, and hoping for a smooth transition from school year to summer.
One of my students asked yesterday "Mrs. Maurer, don't you love being out of school and being home so you can sleep late?" Well, yes and no. I love being home. I love being able to do as I please...but then again...I'm a person of routine and structure. If I don't have one imposed upon me I create my own. I don't sleep late, unless you call 6:30am late. That's about all I can ever manage. I'm usually up between 5:30 and 6:00 in the summer. I get restless if I don't have a project or task planned. I suppose that's one of the reasons I garden. There is always a task to be done in the garden!
And summer is another reality of adulthood. When I was a child it seemed endless! There was so much time and so much exploring and reading and playing to be done. Now I know it is actually just two short months and if I want to complete all my summer projects I'd better keep moving at a steady pace. May and August don't even count in my world because both are transition months.
My son is shaking his head at this moment and will remind me that he doesn't even get two months, so I'd better stress that I am NOT complaining. Just being realistic about what summer means to a compulsive workaholic like myself. It has taken me years of Dr. Phil to even be able to say those words. LOL So, I'm at loose ends, trying to get organized for summer. I may volunteer at the library one day a week. I have the kitchen to paint. The garden is going to need a few more plants. I need to write a couple of articles. I'm working on the Caddo history. I have my genealogy projects. There are cemetery photos to take. I want to go to the History Museum in OKC. Cleaning. Laundry. More cleaning. Oh, and lots of filing. Shouldn't take more than a couple of months...
