My first week of summer vacation has been great! The weather has been mild, except for the FLOOD on Tuesday. I had to go to school to finish my room and of course we got three inches of rain. But since then it has been mild and sunny. I've managed to do a few things in the yard. A friend gave me some more plants, so those are going into the ground this morning.
I awoke this morning with a sense of accomplishment. The kitchen is now textured and ready to paint! I had planned to start that today, but have decided to wait until Monday. (Gary is off today, so he is going to help me with some cemetery photos.) I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see clean white walls. They have been blotchy and sad looking all winter. My own fault- I had removed the wallpaper and then had to abandon my project because of the cold weather. So now I have to decide what color to paint. I had my mind set on a creamy yellow, but now I'm leaning toward a medium sage. My kitchen is big, sunny, and long. I'm afraid the yellow will just look faded with all the sunlight that streams in through the sliding glass door. And I'm not about to put up curtains that would block my view of the pond! I'll decide by Monday.
Yesterday I experienced one of the great joys of summer. Yes, it really is the little things that make us happy. I can now shop at WalMart on Thursdays at 8:30 in the morning. I can choose almost any parking spot I want, shop for an hour in peace, and be the first one in line at the checkout. My son says if I think that's great I should try Tuesday at 2:00 am! LOL No thanks. But Saturdays are such a hassle!! I look forward to a summer without that.
Of course I've already spent hours at the genealogy library! I plan to be there at least once a week. Yes, I'll try to conserve gas and do all my errands on one day. But a woman has to have a hobby and I make no aplogies for mine.
Summer television promises to be fun this year. Circus acts and singing and performing dogs and virtual insanity. Who could ask for more? I love the summer replacement shows because they are so bad. I can work in the yard, or read a book, or fall asleep in my chair, and know with certainty that I haven't missed a thing!
Speaking of books, I have three novels waiting for my attention. Another joy of summer is more reading time!
I've been reading some of Mom's papers this week. I still have boxes of her stuff that I've only glanced at since she died. I have manuscripts and letters and clippings of articles. Still trying to sort and organize.
Guess I'll end with a bit of a complaint. I'm in pain again and having trouble walking. My "bad" leg is not cooperating fully with my summer plans. I don't want to take pain pills and drag it around against it's will all summer, but I will if I have too. Maybe I should just be nice and not call it names. Anyway, if you have time you might say a little prayer.
