It is often the smallest things in life that give us a reason to question the workings of the universe. Today when I went to pick up the mail I glanced down the street to see why a pickup was parked at the curb next to the wildflower bed...and realized the wildflower bed is gone. It is now a lovely green median created by an over-zealous lawn mower. I wasn't even angry, just curious. Why did that happen? Ah, yes, the best laid plans of mice and men... Robert Burns knew there would be days like this. I'll get over it.
My son has also been questioning a small thing in his life- the cord for his phone headset, kept in his car, was curiously cut in half a few days ago. We went through a couple of possible scenarios- slammed in the car door, caught in the seat...oh, no. Turns out it was bitten off by a mouse- a conclusion reached today when yesterday's Taco Bell sack was shredded and turned into the beginnings of a nest. I told you we live in the country!!
You would think that with a couple of active cats we wouldn't have to worry much about mice. But the operative word there would be "active" which my cats are definitely NOT. If you know anything at all about cats, you know that the average well-fed house cat sleeps at least eighteen hours per day, preferably on a human lap whenever they can manage it. And one of my lovely cats spent about thirty minutes devouring a bird tonight. I've tried to tell her the difference between a mouse and a bird, but she doesn't listen.
Just so you know that not every change is bad, I want you to see my daughter's new endeavor. She is writing for a photography site called Take Great Pictures and she has some good advice for you if you like to take sports photos or you enjoy scrapbooking.
First poppy bloomed tonight! It's all good.
