Yes, I'm griping about time again. I know, I know- set your priorities, plan ahead, blah, blah, blah. I still don't have enough time to do all the things I want to do. And some of them are such good things! I have ideas that just have to wait and wait. I think the answer is the four-day work week. Honestly, it's all over by Friday anyway. Let's just stay home!
People long ago routinely worked six days a week. After all, the Bible says to rest on the Sabbath. It doesn't even mention long weekends. But people finally realized they were missing something, like a LIFE, so they cut back to five days a week. I've even read accounts of businesses in Caddo voting to close early, before 7pm, so their employees could go home. Yikes!
The tech geeks have always told us that computers are saving us time and allowing us to do things at home instead of wandering all over town. So lets use that saved time for good- let's cut the work week down again. I'm guessing that there is a lot of work that simply gets stretched out to five days because people know that's how much time they have. Give them four days and they would still getter done!
I'll even go so far as to suggest that we could go to school all year, but only go four days a week. Ok, stop thinking evil thoughts about me and think about this- the original school year was set up to revolve around harvesting. I'm even old enough to remember when school was delayed two weeks so that the grapes could be harvested! Maybe it's time to rethink the whole system. Schools never agree on when to start and finish, when to have breaks, or even how many days equal a "year'. Let's go four days a week, all year, and forget all the other nonsense. When would kids get promoted to the next year?? Have I not blogged about how I think the grade-level system should be abolished??? Kids should be promoted when they are ready.
Uh-oh, out of time. I have to get to school. I'll continue my delirious rantings later...
