Today is the first day of one of my favorite months!
November brings cooler, but still comfortable weather- most days requiring only a sweater or light jacket. And the time changes this weekend so I’ll be driving to work in the daylight again- another plus.
November brings lots of birds to our yard. Most are on their way somewhere. Some are stopping by to eat because their usual fare has been depleted. There were over a dozen robins in the yard last evening. The night before we were visited by a large group of starlings.
November is the start of basketball around here- first game is tomorrow night! And this year I’ll be attending games at my home school and my work school. (Haven’t quite figured out what we’ll do the night they play each other.) Basketball is the only sport I almost understand. Perhaps because after I broke my arm playing volleyball in the seventh grade they put me to work keeping score for the boy’s basketball team. So I can at least follow along and make appropriate remarks. J
November means a break from school. Now don’t get me wrong. I love school. I love my class. I really love my new job. But I also have other projects and personal things that get pushed aside because I know I have a few breaks coming up. So I’m making a list…
November brings my favorite holiday- Thanksgiving! Just think about it- no gifts, no guilt, no conflict. Just food, thankfulness, family, fellowship, and leftover food. It’s also my favorite food- turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing, hot rolls, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, green beans. What could possibly be better?
November is also birthday month for my youngest brother, my favorite cousin, and one of my California friends.
November is the month we honor our veterans. I always talk about this holiday with my students and we read books about citizenship and the flag. I think it’s important for us to start early to instill pride and appreciation for our service men and women.
November is a very special month for Oklahomans this year because it marks our state’s 100th birthday! You can read more about the Oklahoma Centennial and help us out with a big hooray!
