As some of you already know, a couple of years ago I hit a deer. It cracked up the front of my lovely silver Mustang and broke the headlight. Scared me, but I wasn’t hurt. Well, the fact that I’ve previously hit a deer probably saved my life today. I’m so paranoid that I drive along highway 22 at a mere 50-55mph most of the time. I use my high beams. I try to stay alert. Thank goodness that’s what I was doing this morning!
I was driving along when a huge buck walked onto the road. I managed to brake and slow down until I was almost certain he was going to get past me. Just then an oncoming car startled him and he turned back and ran smack into my car. By then I was nearly at a complete stop so it did very little damage- just a dent in the hood and a slight misalignment of the grill. (You know, probably $3,000 or less.) But it did spoil the pretty blue paint. I’m beginning to think that Mustangs are a deer magnet! And, YES, after he flipped over, the deer got up, shook his antlers, and walked away.
I was only about five miles from Caddo, so I pulled over, checked the car with my flashlight and then drove back to town. Checked the car again in the light and decided I could drive it to work. I called my colleague on my cell phone (aren’t you proud of me!) and told her I’d be late.
After a couple of phone conversations with the wonderful folks at Progressive I made arrangements to have the car examined in the morning. Poor hubby is going to handle that AND trust me to drive the other Mustang- the one I previously wrecked.
I’m so very thankful that I wasn’t hurt, but this is going to cost me $250 (deductible), plus stress, time, and inconvenience. This is a busy, busy week and I also have to be in Norman on Monday for a workshop. So please, please pray that the rest of Bambi’s family leaves me alone this week. And pray that I don’t have a heart attack as I try to drive to work tomorrow. I’m getting a stomachache just thinking about it!
