That number was written on the corner of our board yesterday. Then I gave my class a series of clues until they realized its meaning and significance. The winner grinned from ear to ear when he figured it out!
I am at once relieved, disappointed, and somewhat overwhelmed. I am relieved that we have once again successfully completed another year and prepared another group of terrific children for first grade! All of our kindergarten classes are eager to walk a little farther down the hall.
I am of course disappointed that I have not been able to make more progress with some of my students. They are “ready”, but barely so, and I hope they mature a little more over the summer months. But of course it is only months, and I do not expect miracles. I’m sure I will be having some discussions with the first grade teachers next year. We have a good rapport and I’m always willing to share insights and suggestions with them.
I am somewhat overwhelmed because we still have much to do in the next few days. More tests need to be given, work analyzed, report cards issued, certificates completed, etc. Then there is the class trip. We need to finish our memory books, a couple of major projects (Mother’s day), etc. School isn’t over until it’s over…
But now we only have 22 days!
