All of my students came back from Thanksgiving Break with smiles and laughter. They were eager to see their friends and even happy to do some work for me.
December is a busy month in kindergarten. We started yesterday with our letters to Santa so they can be sent to the newspaper today. Many students surprised me by asking for traditional presents: dolls, dinosaurs (not real ones Mrs. Maurer!), puppies (very real), and trucks. One or two asked for Hannah this or that. One asked for an iPod. Three asked for “my very own Christmas tree”. The sweetest of all was a girl who said, “I don’t care. Whatever Santa brings, I will be happy.” That’s the spirit!
We will take photos today so we’ll have plenty for Christmas cards. And of course, we have to make an ornament for the tree, and a page for our kindergarten keepsake book. We have to learn about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and Canadian Boxing Day (no it’s not about fighting) and anything else we can squeeze into our schedule. We might even learn a few more letters of the alphabet!
Busy days ahead, but they will be happy ones!
