Luther Smith Held for Killing of Harrison
Luther Smith, negro, after preliminary hearing at Caddo last Thursday was bound over to district court on a murder charge and bond fixed at $2,500. Smith shot Buster Harrison, another negro, twice with a shot gun several days ago, the wounded negro dying later in the week.
The state put on testimony showing that Luther Smith and his brother, Sam Smith, both laid in wait near Buster’s house and when Harrison came out about daylight, Luther Smith shot him with a shot gun.
County Attorney Victor Phillips and Stanley Williams represent the state while the Smith boys were represented by Walter J. Turnbull.
Luther Smith has been in jail since the shooting, though Sam Smith was not arrested until last week. All the parties and witnesses are negroes and live in the Turnbull neighborhood.
