Caddo Woman Under Arrest for Sale of Booze to Boys
Sheriff Taylor Thursday arrested Mrs. May Lackey, a Caddo woman, on a charge of selling whisky and she is being brought here Friday by the Caddo deputy sheriff according to Mr. Taylor’s statement to a reporter Friday morning.
Last Saturday night two boys, Leonard Reeves and Brownie Bernard, aged 20 years, stole a horse hitched in Caddo, rode him to a dance in Atoka County and then turned him loose, when he returned to his owner’s house. Investigation laid the stunt at the boy’s feet and they were arrested and allowed bond of $500 each by Justice Braudrick on charge of malicious mischief. The boys said they were drunk and asserted that they went to May Lackey’s house in Caddo and that she sold them the liquor on which they got drunk. The woman’s arrest followed.
So far as the memory of local officers goes, this is the first instance of the arrest of a woman for selling whisky in Bryan County.
