The Caddo Banner
January 18, 1896
Caddo barely escaped a disastrous fire one day this week. The roof on the Willis boarding house caught fire and was under a good headway when discovered and put out. If it had burned that house the Methodist Church, livery stable, and several other building would have gone.
(This map shows the buildings mentioned on Main Street, north, between Buffalo Street and Caddo Street.)
Two Jackson county deputy sheriffs came up yesterday and arrested Mrs. W. T. Smith for violating the permit law, but after they had arrested her they were like the deputy with the elephant on his hands. They did not know what to do with her. Mr. Smith refused to make bond for her and they were afraid to take her to jail and finally turned her loose.
The Rocky Mountain View Company is here and will remain for only thirty days. Nothing but the best pictures are turned out. If you want a true picture, call and have some taken.
