The Caddo Banner
August 17, 1894
The Banner has secured a ten-month scholarship in the Oak Cliff College for young ladies and will give it to some young lady of the Indian Territory, to be selected by the readers of The Banner.
This scholarship includes tuition in all the departments for ten months and is worth $60.00
The Oak Cliff College is one of the best in the state of Texas and is in the largest city in the state.
Oak Cliff is a suburb of Dallas just across the river and contains some of the handsomest residences in the state.
Quite a number of the young ladies of the Indian Territory have been sent to this college for the next term.
Every Banner will contain a vote. Cut it out and write the name of the young lady of your choice and give it to W. P. Wood or C. C. Jennings. They will keep all the votes and the progress will be announced each week, until Thursday, September 27. The voting will close at 8 o’clock and the result will be announced the next day and the young lady receiving the most votes will be awarded the free scholarship, good for one term.
Nominate your candidate and see that she is elected. Extra votes can be had at 2 cents each. The Banner

The voting contest closed last night and Miss Amelia Manning was the winning party, she having received the greatest number of votes and will receive the free scholarship to the Oak Cliff Female College. A more deserving young lady could not have won it. A free scholarship to the leading college in the south is something any young lady should feel proud of.
